Swansea's Guidolin first EPL coach to be sacked in 2016/17 season

Swansea City has fired Francesco Guidolin on his 61st birthday and replaced him with former USA national team coach Bob Bradley, who becomes the first American to manage a Premier League club.

Bradley, the former USA and Egypt national teams manager, replaced Italian Francesco Guidolin at Swansea on Monday.

Former Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs was denied his first foray into management after Swansea chose to snub him in favour of American Bob Bradley, according to reports.

Bradley, who joins Swansea from Le Havre in France's second division, which he almost guided to promotion previous year, said his appointment as the Swans' boss is a big moment for American soccer.

Guidolin did well to keep the "Swans" in the Premier League last campaign, but after 5 defeats in 7 League games, the decision was taken to relive the Italian of his managerial duties.

But the US-based owners of the club chose to appoint the American Bob Bradley. Bradley calls it a unique opportunity and also thanked Le Havre for giving him exposure that allowed him to be considered for a position in a top tier league.

After the two-week worldwide break, Bradley faces a daunting first game in charge: a trip to Arsene Wenger's Arsenal on October 15.

Bradley, who has been in charge at Le Havre in the French second division, came across impressively during the interview process, with his strength of character, experience and leadership qualities seen as key attributes.

Bob Bradley is expected to make an immediate impact and lasting impression after being appointed as Swansea manager.

'It is never easy changing managers, but we are looking at a long-term appointment and we are confident Bob can settle us down and stabilise matters on and off the pitch'.

The 58-year-old was dismissed in 2011 after the United States lost the CONCACAF Gold Cup final against Mexico and subsequently had a two-year spell as Egypt coach which ended when they failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

He also becomes the first ever American to manage in the English top flight.

"He is one of the true students of the game, he constantly studies the game, he literally took a DVD player everywhere he went watching games, studying what's going on out there and I think he's a tactician in that way".

Also shown the club's exit door were three members of his backroom staff, Diego Bortoluzzi, Gabrielle Ambrosetti, Claudio Bordon.
