Hillary Clinton: 'Ted Cruz Was Right'

The 70-year-old spoke for more than an hour to deliver a 4,600 word speech at the Republican convention in Cleveland, Ohio - which was boycotted in protest by big-name Republicans including former presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and members of the Bush family.

As Clinton stepped off stage in Tampa, her vice presidential nominee remained unannounced, despite many in the audience hoping to know who Clinton's running mate would be by the time they left.

Demonstrators make their way to the Lorain-Carnegie bridge during a protest, Thursday, July 21, 2016, in Cleveland, during the final day of the Republican convention.

Ted Cruz of Texas, pointedly refused to endorse the party's nominee during his convention speech, inciting a chorus of boos and catcalls from pro-Trump delegates.

Donald Trump will vow to restore law and order to the United States if elected president, making his case for why Americans should choose him over Democrat Hillary Clinton in a speech accepting the Republican Party's nomination.

"This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction and weakness".

During his address Friday, Trump went on to say that Cruz only failed himself in refusing to endorse the party's presidential candidate. "Death, destruction, terrorism and weakness".

"I think perhaps bringing that kind of outsider blood to Washington, apart from lifelong politicians, could be what our country needs to break free from small growth and move toward high growth", said Noah Lewis of San Francisco.

"I didn't start anything with the wife", Trump said of the attack ads during the primary, which he retweeted, that featured an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz.

He recalled how a super PAC sympathetic to Cruz disseminated risque photographs of Trump's wife, Melania, to voters in conservative Utah before the state's primary.

"We must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place", he said.

Then, Mr Trump sparked more questions about his Oval Office readiness by suggesting in an interview that the United States might not defend America's North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partners with him as president.

Still, he set aside much of his usual bravado. As fired-up supporters at Trump's acceptance speech broke out in their oft-used refrain of "Lock her up", the nominee waved them off, and instead declared, "Let's defeat her in November".

He was introduced by his daughter Ivanka, who announced a childcare policy proposal that the campaign had not mentioned before. "We need to be rescued", she said. He said he will not sign "bad" trade agreements.

"All of the people telling you that you can't have the country you want, are the same people telling you that I wouldn't be standing here tonight". "Last night's speech took it to a whole new level".

Trump said Cruz, who is "bound by the pledge", should have endorsed him, arguing that Cruz "would have been in better shape in four years".
