Head of Rio Games: Golfers skip because no money involved

The head of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics says the world's top four male golfers have withdrawn from the Games because there is no money to be won - not because of the Zika virus.

"And I don't mean to make that sound in a bad way". It's not like we're chasing it because of that.

"We play the Presidents Cup, there's no prize money". In doubles, she and Venus will be trying to win gold for the fourth time, after triumphs in 2000, 2008 and 2012.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, had received a filed lawsuit from the Russian Olympic Committee against IAAF in defence of 68 national track and field athletes wishing to participate in the 2016 Summer Games. Golf is guaranteed a spot in the Tokyo Olympics in four years, but could be vulnerable after that. I wouldn't worry about it.

Weightlifting Olympic champion Liao Hui, who missed the 2012 Olympics after failing a drugs test, also announced his retirement on the Twitter-like Weibo platform on Monday.

Raonic admitted that the Zika virus was part of the reason behind his decision. "I want to try and play well and do myself and my country proud by hopefully bringing home a medal".

Scott was among the first golfers to announce he wasn't going to Brazil, the former world No.1 citing a jam-packed schedule and his focus on the majors as his preference.

World number one Jason Day has hit back at critics of the golfers who have elected to skip the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The men's Olympic golf competition will take place from 11 to 14 August.

The 36-year-old says he's not offended by Nuzman's remarks, but he's not happy either.

"I'm more afraid of bears", he told reporters recently.

"I don't know where he would get that idea".

"There is nothing more special than becoming a parent, and I'm blessed to have so many examples of women, in every walk of life, who have pursued careers they love while raising children".

Brazil has said it will bolster security for next month's Olympics in the aftermath of the attack on France's Riviera city, which saw a man ram his truck into crowds gathered to watch the Bastille Day fireworks.

"Hopefully I'll have the option".
