Best is yet to come, says Murray

Andy Murray's ice-man coach Ivan Lendl admitted even he felt emotional after the Scot beat Milos Raonic to win a second Wimbledon title.

"I think it's phenomenal for him to back up his win from three years ago", said Raonic.

The 29-year-old Murray came into the tournament after losing to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the finals of both the Australian Open and French Open this year. But without any young players challenging the Big Four's supremacy-and with half of the Big Four in decline-we can expect Andy Murray to keep grunting, yelling and chasing his way to further glory.

Murray's great returning also limited Raonic to eight aces after he had regularly hit more than 20 per match in the rounds leading up to the final.

"If I want to add to three slams, I'm going to have to find ways to win against them", he said.

"I feel happier this time, I feel more content... Now I feel quite different about that throughout the year".

When he lifted the trophy in 2013, Murray became the first British male to triumph at the All England Club since Fred Perry in 1936, ending a 77-year wait for glory.

He didn't need to face either of those rivals this fortnight: The sixth-seeded Raonic eliminated Federer in five sets in the semifinals Friday, and also defeated the player who stunned Djokovic in the third round, Sam Querrey.

With or without McEnroe, Raonic, who also has former world number one Carlos Moya in his camp, is confident he can do for Canadian tennis what Murray has done for Britain.

"There's not one thing that I'm not going to try and improve".

'I am also aware of how hard these competitions are to win once. I'm going to try to get myself back to this position and try to be better in this position.

"The last three months have been some of the best I've played in my career in terms of consistency".

Soon after the triump, Murray posted a picture of his with the cup in a bathtub, and captioned it: "Holding this bad boy makes the ice bath that little bit more bearable".

Murray headed home for some much-needed rest after his media duties and was planning a more low-key celebration on Monday night by going out for dinner with his team.

I've lost a lot of close ones against great players most of the time.

Lendl will take a lot of credit for steering Murray to another major crown but the Scot was keen to praise all his team, including full-time coach Jamie Delgado.

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been this era's dominant three - but this is precisely what has given Murray the self-belief to become as good as he can be. Murray took 50 of 65 points he served across the first two sets, not only never facing so much as a break point in that span but only once being taken to deuce.

"This is obviously the most important tournament for me, every year", Murray said.

'To do it twice here, an event where there is a lot of pressure on me to perform well, I am very proud with how I have handled that over the years'.

"We're now working on making sure we build a better provision in parks so that it's more than a one-off experience when someone goes out to play tennis". I'm exhausted just watching him.
