Noren leads by 2 shots after 3 rounds of Scottish Open

Alex Noren was crowned champion after converting his 54 hole lead and wins just his fifth title on the European Tour.

McDowell began his final round on eight-under, four adrift of Noren, and birdied the first hole to reduce the gap to three. His final round was a bogeyfree 69, slotting him in a tie for third with Matteo Manassero and Nicolas Colsaerts.

Four places in the British Open are available for those not already qualified and who finish in the top 12 plus ties. He joins Russell Knox, Paul Lawrie, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren as the home hopes in the today's draw for Thursday's first round.

"That's what I was doing the majority of the day, " she said.

"I've been here before and I think you really have to just get to work on what you're doing, because if you spend a lot of time thinking about where you're going to finish, you're going to drop down pretty quick, " Lang said.

"I'm so happy it's over because it was a tough, tough leaderboard". Keith wouldn't be able to come back up to Scotland if he took it away.

Noren had an early birdie at the second and was caught by Hatton, Lee and even Andy Sullivan at various points in the afternoon, but was never headed by anyone and did just enough to hold the field at arm's length.

The Swede hit a stunning tee shot on the par-three 17th, before adding a birdie three at the last for a 68 to reach 12-under 204 for the tournament.

Ramsay was delighted to secure his sixth appearance in the Open and a first for baby daughter Olivia, who was born in February. Really what I was focusing on was this tournament, I was trying to win this and hopefully I'll get another chance to do that next year. "I know my wife is lying by the pool in Florida right now; this is not the glamorous life you think it is out here, all right".

"We've both got young children, so we share that", he said.

"I'll go there looking forward to playing links golf, and ultimately I'll feel like if I get my head around it, I can compete".

"Sometimes when you're in that moment, you forget it", he said.

"I'm very happy. The last nine holes were very tough but at the same time the course played pretty much the same".

Noren carded six birdies and two bogeys to sign for a 68 and double his overnight advantage, despite the strong winds of the first two days giving way to torrential downpours. Yet the chasers barely made a birdie putt in the closing holes, with Colsaerts the fastest finisher by making eagle with a huge putt on No. 12 and then rolling in birdies on Nos.

The Scottish Open is guaranteed its coveted place in the calendar the week before the Open Championship up to and including 2020, although the Irish Open - hosted by Rory McIlroy - is keen for that to change. I'm coming into these weeks and wanted to make sure I could try and compete two or three times for the five weeks.

Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell travelled south from the Highlands to Troon last night with more positives than negatives to take from their challenge for the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open championship at Castle Stuart. "I really thought I had a good chance to win but I'm immensely proud of finishing high".

"The last month and a half I have worked probably harder than ever on my game and my team have done a great job of getting me back on the straight and narrow".
