Mahut, Herbert win Wimbledon doubles title

Nicolas Mahut of France top right with playing partner Pierre Hughes Herbert of France return to Julien Benneteau bottom left and Edouard Roger Vasselin of France during the men's doubles final on day thirteen of the Wimbledo

This is the second major title together for the top-seeded team of Mahut and Herbert, who won the US Open previous year. This was the 14th Grand Slam doubles title for the unrepeatable sisters, and they are keeping their ideal record in the finals intact! They were the better players, both on serve and on return, but Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin did their best to stay in touch as long as possible, saving 9 out of 12 break points they faced.

This time it was a Centre Court victory for Mahut to savour as he and Herbert justified their top seeding by defeating the unseeded Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3. However, Roger-Vasselin dug them out of a hole, saved another break point opportunity and held for 4-4.

The Filipino/Belarussian pair had a stellar run, making the semifinals after a 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 win over Oliver Marach of Austria and Fabrice Martin of France.

The American siblings won their sixth doubles championship at the All England Club and 14th as a pair at all Grand Slam tournaments by beating fifth-seeded Timea Babos of Hungary and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-4. Having won the first point, they went on to win six of the next seven to win the breaker 7-1 and set 7-6(1). Now I can come in the press conference as a Wimbledon champion. Both teams then exchange wins until the twelfth game for a 6-6 deadlock at set point. We're seeing it [playing in both events] in women's tennis right now with the Williams sisters, but in men's tennis it's quite rare to see someone playing in the second week [at Wimbledon] and winning after the doubles tournament so I'm proud of it.

"I think Nico is more of a statistic guy, the guy who is going to serve eighty percent of first serve, the guy who is going to make ninety percent of his volleys".
