The NBA landscape will shift over the offseason, with a number of high profile players hitting free agency, while a team like Boston Celtics are looking for blockbuster trades.
Here we take a look at some 2016/17 predictions…
Minnesota Timberwolves postseason push
The Wolves young, immensely talented core will improve once again, pushing Minnesota further up the Western standings. We’ve already seen the green shoots of something great this term and look like they could make a playoff push next season.
Karl-Anthony Towns, the unanimous Rookie of the Year, is already a star and is a truly unbelievable talent destined to be the best player in the league at some point in his career - Canadian Andrew Wiggins isn't too bad either.
Timberwolves will add a top-five draft pick and $20-plus million in cap space this summer. All the ingredients are there for Minnesota to excel next term.
Boston have tons of tradable assets heading into the offseason.
With rumours that they could trade for Jimmy Butler or Kevin Love, or even acquire Kevin Durant in free agency, it can be assumed that they will be able to pull off at least one of those moves.
In recent days they have been linked with Gordon Hayward who has reportedly requested a trade, this move would fit perfectly with Celtics’ need for an all-round star.
Celtics are such a well-run organisation, that C’s fans should have faith in whatever Danny Ainge decides to do. One thing is for sure, Boston will be challenging for the Eastern Conference second spot next term.
Warriors lick their wounds
Throwing away a 3-1 series lead in the Finals against the Cavaliers doesn't change everything for the Golden State Warriors. They may be short a ring, but looking forward, they remain the NBA's best team – at least for the time being.
Steph Curry won’t suddenly become terrible, nor will Draymond Green or Klay Thompson, after all, these Warriors did not win an Association-record 73 regular-season contests by luck. Nevertheless, the Oakland outfit will be hoping to turn things around next year.
However, Golden State’s loss to the Cavs showed their human side, and they will have to handle a lot of free agents this summer.
Cavs have work cut out
The defending champs have their work cut out keeping the title winning roster together this summer.
They will most likely keep LeBron James, which always makes you the favourite to finish at the top of your conference regardless of the rest of your team. But look deeper than that and there are a number of issues.
Can they afford to re-sign JR. Smith? Where does Matthew Dellavedova’s future lie? Do they bother paying Timofey Mozgov? Does Kevin Love truly belong in Cleveland?
The problem with the Wine and Gold is the fitness of James. If he gets injured for a substantial amount of time, it will devastate the franchise.
